Are You Schooling Your Kids This Summer? August 3, 2009
With six weeks leading up to the start of school, I told myself and my boys that we’d be hitting the books a bit, just to get ready for the first and third grades. I bought some workbooks, scoured the Internet for ideas, and we actually did a day or two of work. Then we got busy again with the fun of summer. That was two weeks ago. And now I’m serious — these boys of mine are going to freshen up their skills. I mean it this time (I think).
We started sharpening our skills over the weekend. Danny, headed for first grade, did some reading — I printed some beginner reading sheets here — and Joey, on his way to third, did some telling time stuff. He’s a pro at his digital watch, but he needs some practice reading clocks with real hands — got some printable worksheets here.
I’m not trying to move mountains or anything with our summertime studies, just aiming to keep my kids’ heads in the learning game.
What are you doing to keep your kids sharp this summer?
