Head Lice Allowed in Schools: Monday Mention August 9, 2010
Back-to-school is almost here, and so is a new guideline by the American Academy of Pediatrics that will likely make its way into your kids’ classrooms. It pertains to head lice, and it basically states that kids with lice can attend school. No more sending them home and keeping them there until they are free and clear of the little buggers. Nope. Says the AAP:
Head lice are not a health hazard or a sign of poor hygiene and, in contrast to body lice, are not responsible for the spread of any disease. No healthy child should be excluded from or miss school because of head lice, and no-nit policies for return to school should be abandoned
