Discipline Inspires Creativity July 3, 2012
Given the chance, my kids would watch TV, play computer games, and plug into their iPads 24/7. It takes consistent nudging to get them out of their electronic shells. Well, nudging and discipline. You see, my kids love their plugged-in devices so much that removing them is easy punishment. And the funny thing is, when they don’t have their gear, they turn to creative outlets—my younger son built with Lego all afternoon today; my older guy asked me to help him with a middle-school summer project. It’s not that I want them to get in trouble (today it was constant bickering and meanness that got their cords yanked), I just like the aftermath of discipline because they know they cannot plug in, in contrast to normal screen-time restrictions that inspire them to keep begging for more.
