Rosie O’Donnell had a heart attack—did you hear? That scares me, just like it scares me when I hear about someone who has had a serious car accident or someone who has fallen victim to a crazy disease. It makes me realize I could be next in line for an unexpected, life-changing blow, and for a while, I let this realization motivate me to truly appreciate my every moment. Granted, I usually fall back into the habit of taking for granted all the good in my life, but for a bit, I cherish—really cherish—my blessings, which are most definitely my family members. The first people I latch onto during moments of panic about how something bad could happen to me at any time are my kids.
