Forget the lose-weight, get-in-shape, save-more-money resolutions this year. Well, make them if you really want to make them, but how about a new sorta resolution for a change — one that helps you focus on living each day with gratitude and joy. Yes, gratitude and joy — that’s my endeavor this year, and it’s all because of a little girl named Marlie who lost her battle with cancer on the very last day of 2011. She was just 8 years old, and if she can’t be here anymore to live a joyful life, well, then, I will live one in her honor. Want to join me? (Here, a bit more about Marlie and how you can live strong in her absence.)

Did you know that 70,000 young adults are diagnosed with cancer every year, and that survival rates and quality of life have not improved in 30 years? Sure enough. And chances are, you know a young mom — or will soon know one — who is struggling to balance her cancer care with child care. It’s a tough road, for sure.

I’m Too Young For This cancer foundation can help — it exists to ensure that every young adult affected by cancer is given access to the best age-appropriate support so they can get busy living at every stage of their survivorship. There are local chapters, so point your young friends this way, and see if it makes them feel better.
